Acupressure and Pain Relief During Labour

Acupressure is a safe, natural, and effective way to manage the discomforts of labour. It has been proven to be just as effective -- if not more so -- as acupuncture during labour. With acupressure:

  1. Birth partners can start stimulating the points early in labour, stimulating the release of endorphins.
  2. The procedure can be applied in all the birthing positions and even in water.
  3. There is something to be said about the power of human touch; it is calming, reassuring, and healing.

Recent research has reported that acupressure can reduce cesarean section rates. It also reports reduced need for epidurals and cesarean sections when used as part of an antenatal intervention.(1,2)
