3 Failed IVF Cycles, Now Pregnant with Laser Acupuncture

I wanted to write a case study about a particular patient who I believe is a great example of how powerful low level laser therapy and acupuncture can be. This patient, who I will call Sarah, was struggling with secondary infertility after naturally conceiving her son a few years prior. She did 5 rounds of clomid, 3 unsuccessful IUI’s, and then decided to go through with IVF. She had two cycles of IVF, both with embryos transferred and both resulting in a chemical pregnancies with no embryos left over. Her third IVF was unfortunately canceled due to inadequate follicle maturation. Sarah was 36, and her AMH (indicator of ovarian reserve) was slightly low, but she knew she was missing a key component in improving her IVF success.

One of the reasons I think Sarah’s fourth IVF cycle so effective is that she was very dedicated to consistency, understanding that laser dosage is extremely important to its effectiveness. She came twice per week for eight weeks, never missing an appointment and even coming on the morning of Christmas Eve to get her laser acupuncture sessions in. She also knew the importance of preconception care, allowing at least a couple of months before trying another round of IVF to give her body enough time to create the optimal environment for her follicles to flourish and implantation to occur. When her first period came after completing a series of acu-laser treatments, Sarah was delighted to see that her PMS was drastically reduced, her typical clotty periods were smoother, and her backaches a lot less intense, all great signs of hormone balance and improved blood flow to the reproductive organs.

Sarah also understood the importance of doing the work outside of the clinic. She cleaned up her diet, took all of the recommended supplements, kept her stress levels low, and got enough sleep. When the day came for her retrieval, Sarah felt a lot more prepared and confident going into it this time around. And the results showed. 17 eggs were retrieved, 15 of them mature, and 10 fertilized. A positive pregnancy test was revealed after a fresh embryo transfer.

Sarah is now well into her second trimester and overjoyed to provide her son with a sibling.
