Urticaria
Uriticaria, or hives, is due to an excessive histamine release in the skin that leads to a raised wheal like, extremely itchy, rash, which usually resides after a couple hours. In chronic cases, another hive may develop soon after, leading to constant, non-stop, out breaks and much agony. Often times an allergy to something in the diet or environment is the culprit, other times just mere pressure on the skin can induce a hive, but in many cases it is hard to understand the causative factor. Many individuals will have dermographism, where by the skin is highly reactive when scratched, forming a raised red streak, or hive. In acute incidences of uriticaria, an anti-histimine drug like benadryl may be good enough to offer relief, but in chronic cases, where the rash continues for more than a couple months, Chinese herbal medicine can be much stronger and more effective.
