Natural pregnancy has better chance of lasting, research proves.
Hi everyone, Dr, Trevor Erikson here. In our modern world couples have a lot more options available to them in order to increase their odds of becoming pregnant. Fertility clinics exist all around the globe, ready to offer treatments like clomiphene citrate to help you ovulate, intrauterine insemination, injectable gonadotropins to help you ovulate even stronger, and then of course the ones where an embryo is formed outside the body like in-vitro fertilization (IVF), Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and frozen embryo transfers (FET).
Smoking is bad for fertility - Reason number 1 - Erectile dysfunction
Hi everyone, Dr. Trevor Erikson here. While surfing through the pages of pubmed, a massive online directory for published medical research, I decided to look up the bad effects tobacco smoking can have on our health. 162,622 links appeared on my screen! Many of the reasons are actually connected to poor reproductive outcomes, some of which I decided to write about. This blog is about reason number one - erectile dysfunction.
Exercise turns back your reproductive clock
Hi everyone, Dr. Erikson here. If you get the chance I highly recommend reading this article I recently stumbled across titled "The true secret of youth? Exercise", by Sharon Kirkey of the Ottawa Citizen newspaper. Writing about research that Canadian scientists published, Sharon totally inspired and reminded me of just how powerful regular exercise can be on our overall health.
Recurrent pregancy loss
Hi everyone, Dr. Trevor Erikson here. This week I wanted to touch on a very emotional topic, that of pregnancy loss. I find this to be the most challenging of anything that I encounter in the clinic. It is not uncommon for me to shed some tears as I listen intently to a woman's story of loss, of her excitement and hopes turned to disappointment and sorrow.
And to think that miscarrying one child before term isn't bad enough, the thought of women experiencing this over and over again is a terrible tragedy. Some bizarre part of nature that seems so totally unfair.
