PCOS overcome with acupuncture diet and IVF

I came to see Dr. Ryan Funk to complement the IVF cycle I was doing through Genesis Fertility Clinic. I was 30 years old and had a diagnosis of poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) since my early twenties. My PCOS caused me to be anovulatory, have irregular periods, and be overweight. After I was married at the age of 26, we had tried to achieve pregnancy. I had tried natural methods, clomid, naturopathy, superovulation and more all to no avail.

Dr. Funk is a very warm, friendly and engaged practitioner. Together we implemented diet changes to attempt to balance my blood sugar levels, through limiting wheat and other carbohydrates as well as dairy. This was to give my body the best possible chance to be open to conception. I also started taking supplements to support his process to help stabilize my blood sugar levels and promote general health and wellbeing. I also ensured I got out walking and biking to be physically active. For the few weeks before my cycle started, I saw Dr. Funk twice a week, and when my cycle started, I went on average four times a week to give my body the best possible chance of achieving pregnancy. Acupuncture increases blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, which is important in helping healthy egg production. I found the acupuncture extremely helpful in assisting me to cope with the physical and emotional rollercoaster of an IVF cycle. Also listening to the guided meditations was very relaxing.

During the egg retrieval at Genesis, we were able to retrieve 13 eggs, of which 12 fertilized overnight. On the day of my embryo transfer, I also did the on-site IVF laser acupuncture support, which helped make the process less stressful. Two embryos were transferred on that day and we were told that they were of excellent quality. Four more embryos made it to the blastocyst stage and were frozen for future use. Ten days after the procedure, I found out I was pregnant after five years of trying! After the embryo transfer, I also saw Dr. Funk once a week throughout the whole first trimester to support and nourish my pregnancy and help alleviate symptoms like nausea and bloating from Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. I am proud and pleased to say I am now 16 weeks pregnant with twins and that I honestly believe that my collaboration with Acubalance helped me to achieve a healthy pregnancy.
