Robitussin: Pregnancy in a $5 bottle of hope
This article appeared in the Globe and Mail about women using an ingredient called guaifenesin found in Robitussin to thin the cervical mucus to assist the sperm to travel easier to and pass the cervix.
I do not fully agree with Dr Cheung's comment about “Cervical mucus can be overcome by doing insemination, so it doesn't even matter,” Dr. Cheung said of Robitussin's possible effect. I agree that insemination does allow you to bypass the mucus issue but it is does not correct the imbalance that is creating the mucus issue in the first place. Rather than symptom management, a Chinese medicine practitioner will use dietary therapy, Chinese herbal medicinals and acupuncture to correct the underlying imbalance to help your body function optimally and produce the cervical mucus that is both plentiful for the 3-5 days leading up to ovulation as well help with the egg white quality that is beneficial to the sperm. There is a great article attached which goes into detail about both charting BBT and checking for mucus signs. It will help you understand why the Chinese medicine practitioners place so much importance on the quantity and quality of the cervical mucus.
If you are looking for a practitioner of Chinese medicine who has experience treating reproductive issues then check out these two resources for a practitioner in your area.
