Recurrent pregancy loss
Hi everyone, Dr. Trevor Erikson here. This week I wanted to touch on a very emotional topic, that of pregnancy loss. I find this to be the most challenging of anything that I encounter in the clinic. It is not uncommon for me to shed some tears as I listen intently to a woman's story of loss, of her excitement and hopes turned to disappointment and sorrow.
And to think that miscarrying one child before term isn't bad enough, the thought of women experiencing this over and over again is a terrible tragedy. Some bizarre part of nature that seems so totally unfair.
Recurrent pregnancy loss can be related to so many reasons, some of which completely genetic and random, while others may be due to some definable problem like a clotting disorder or a luteal phase defect. Most of the time, recurrent pregnancy is loss is unexplained by the western experts.
In Chinese medicine, other reasons have been identified that help explain a woman's inability to carry a baby to term. Believe or not, even the strength of your digestion can be an issue, as it is a Chinese medical belief that this strength is also related to your ability to ovulate regularly and to fully nourish and secure a growing embryo.
These far out eastern ideas are beyond theory, as they actually do pan out in a clinical setting. I have personally seen many women carry to term, even after losing upwards of 5 or 6 babies. To learn more, and to hear some stories of women I have personally helped, please attend my free live talk this Monday, February 21, here at Acubalance Wellness Centre in Vancouver.
