Polycystic Ovarian syndrome PCOS Vancouver Fertility Testing
PCOS i s asyndrome and a woman meets the diagnosis if she meet any two out of the three following criteria:
- irregular or absent menses (Oligomenorrhea or Amenorrhoea)
- hyperandrogenism (clinical or biochemical)
- Cystic ovaries
A diagnosis is usually made when a woman has irregular or absent periods, in addition to signs of hyperandrogenism without another medical cause. When a woman has infrequent, absent or irregular periods, it is a sign that ovulation may not be occurring. The doctor will try to rule out other conditions that could cause irregular periods, such as thyroid disease, hyperprolactinemia, Cushings syndrome or congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

- FSH – Follicle Stimulating Hormone
- LH – Luteinizing Hormone
- E2 - Estradiol
- TSH – Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
- Prolactin
- 17OHP - 17-Hydroxyprogesterone. A 17-OHP test may also sometimes be used, along with other hormone tests, to help rule out congenital adrenal hyperplasia CAH in people who have similar symptoms, such as hirsutism and irregular periods. This includes women with suspected polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and infertility, and rarely those with suspected adrenal or ovarian cancers. Androstenedione
- DHEAS - Concentrations of DHEAS are often measured, along with other hormones such as FSH, LH, prolactin, estrogen, and testosterone, to help diagnose polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and to help rule out other causes of infertility, amenorrhea, and hirsutism.

- Triglycerides
- HDL Cholesterol
- LDL Cholesterol
- Ultrasound scan of ovaries
