Acupunction and Menstrual Cycle

I recently started acupuncture on 4/19/07. I had just had a very light period prior to starting the acupuncture on 4/14/07. On 4/22/07 I started bleeding again and haven't stopped since. It is a light flow with some cramping periodically. I have had 5 acupuncture treatments so far.
My question is can the acupuncture be causing me to keep bleeding for all this time. I have had an ultrasound to rule out polyps, fibroids cysts. The only thing different is the acupuncture. I have also started drinking herbs, however the bleeding started before the herbs so I don't think that is the cause.

It is not my experience that acupuncture alone can cause continuous menstrual bleeding.
I suggest that you consult with you MD again to rule out any other causes of bleeding.
Take an EPT rule out a pregnancy or a missed pregnancy loss. I have seen this as a cause in the past.
Also, you would want to bring this new occurrence of bleeding up with your TCM doc at your next treatment. This information would be relevant in redefining your pattern diagnosis and should lead to a modification of your next batch of herbs and acupuncture points to stop the bleeding.
Can Acupuncture cause my menstrual cycle to be delayed? I have been prettye regular since the beginning of this year. I recently started accupunture and I am delayed this month. Could acupunture be the cause?
How delayed? Weeks or a few days? Do you know when you ovulated in your cycle? It is really not an issue if it is only a few days. The first half of your cycle can change based on some of the reasons I listed above. The second half of the cycle usually remains fairly consistent. If you ovulated the same time as you usually do and the second half is longer and you have bleed then you may have experienced a chemical pregnancy.
And when acupuncturist try to regulate your cyle sometimes your body goes through its balancing act and your cycle changes. I use to get upset with my patients when I first started to practice. But now I do not react with my patients as I have seen this to be a good thing as long as it does not continue for three or more cycles. Just like when you sweep a garage, it takes several hours for the dust to settle before it looks clean. The same with your cycle, it should eventually settle into a biter rhythm than before you started. And I am guessing it is from one of the factors I listed above. I hope this helps put you at ease.

I wanted to add to my above post that anti histamines (allergy season) and NSAIDs like Ibuprofen can both delay ovulation and prevent implantation. So they can both interfere with pregnancy and lead to a delayed cycle. Just thought about it as I know it is allergy season here right now.

I have been doing acupuncture for 5 weeks now. My cycles have always been around 28 days long. This month however (in a natural cycle), I ovulated around day 11-12 (LH surge seen on day 10) & a 30mm follicle was also seen on ultrasound at that time. But, my cycle ended abruptly at 21 days, the day after an acupuncture treatment. Is it possible that the acupuncture caused this cycle to end early? thanks, Julie
