Acubalance Wellness Centre is the first Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in Western Canada entirely dedicated to treating infertility and men's and women's reproductive health. Natural Fertility

Chinese medicine offers you natural ways to increase fertility during the critical four to six months before conception. Our preconception program uses a blend of diet therapy, lifestyle counseling, mind-body techniques, herbal formulas and acupuncture to balance your hormones, improve your fertility, and boost your overall health and well being.

The preconception program is an option for women who simply want to boost their fertility naturally, for women that have been unsuccessful with IVF and want to try a natural alternative, or for women who want to ensure their body is in the best condition to conceive before trying IVF again.

If your fallopian tubes are intact and your partner's sperm is healthy then you might want to start with the preconception program and only use IVF if necessary.

One of our highly trained practitioners will do an in-depth evaluation of you and your partner’s condition and create a personalized treatment plan based on your individual diagnosis.

We also strongly encourage the male partner to come for treatment as in over 40% of infertility cases there is male factor infertility. Acupuncture, Chinese medicine, diet and exercise can help. In all cases we focus on treating the whole patient, and the root cause of your disorder. As a result you will not only experience an improvement in your specific condition but better over all health and sense of wellbeing.

Acubalance is the exclusive acupuncture provider for IVF transfer day treatments on site at Genesis Fertility Centre.

At Acubalance we offer a number of different IVF acupuncture programs designed to:

• Optimize your chances of getting pregnant and more importamtly, having a live birth
• Increase blood flow to your reproductive organs
• Reduce stress and enhance your health and well-being
• Minimize symptoms associated with ART treatment, including ectopic pregnancies
• Use treatment strategies based on evidenced based protocols

Our acupuncture treatment plans are based on evidence-based protocols and range from preconception programs, to one or two treatments on the day of embryo transfer, to a course of treatment leading up to IVF transfer and continuing after.

We are pleased to be able to offer you acupuncture on-site at Genesis Fertility Centre. Below are some of our treatment options. You and your Acubalance practitioner will discuss which plan best suits your needs. These can be tailored to further support you during your IVF process.

Acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer

Our acupuncture treatment protocols are based on those used in a number of clinical trials. These trials have shown a significant increase in pregnancy rates. (You can find the references for these trials here. )

Treatment: Two treatments. Your first acupuncture treatment before transfer is 25 minutes long. Your second treatment occurs after transfer and  is about 20 minutes.

Acupuncture before and during the medication phase of IVF

Clinical trials have shown that acupuncture treatment before and during IVF increases blood flow to the uterus and ovaries. In addition, acupuncture appears to regulate fertility hormones which may contribute to follicle development and increased implantation. These trials reported increased pregnancy rates based on this protocol. (reference)

Treatment: Two treatments per week for six weeks before egg retrieval (optimal) plus treatment at the time of embryo transfer (schedule 1).

Acupuncture three days after egg collection if going to blastocyst (day five) embryo transfer

We recommend that you have an acupuncture treatment three days after egg collection to help prepare a calm environment for the arrival of an embryo for day five transfers.

This treatment can be combined with the programs above.

Treatment: One treatment 3 days after the egg retrieval

Acupuncture for frozen embryo transfer (FET) including donor eggs

Clinical trials have shown that acupuncture treatment before and during IVF increases blood flow to the uterus and ovaries. In addition,acupuncture appears to regulate fertility hormones which may contributeto follicle development and increased implantation. These trials reported increased pregnancy rates based on this protocol.

Treatment: Two treatments per week for four weeks before embryo transfer, plus treatment on the day of transfer.
