Male hormones to blame for economic depression

  • Clinic Blog of Spence

A bold statement, right?  So far in life, men have been quite content blaming anything women do that is remotely 'crazy' on their hormones.  This has made life simple, and is even widely accepted by a lot of women.  But what if it was possible that some of the problems with the world that could be classified as being stemming from the 'mans world' were due to male hormones running amuck?  Most men might even question 'Do we have hormones?'.  Well, the answer is yes, and recently, the finger is being pointed at male hormone imbalance being the cause of the current economic depression.

A recent article in the New York Times (read article) stated "John M. Coates, a former trader who is now a senior research fellow in neuroscience and finance at the University of Cambridge, and a colleague, Joseph Herbert, laid it all out in the study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Measuring steroid
levels of traders in the City of London, they demonstrated that traders were heavily influenced by hormone levels
", in particular, cortisol released by stress and fear, and testosterone released by power and success.

The more we operate out of fear (like the traders have been as of late), the worse things get.  We take less risks (testosterone function), become meek, and generally put our tail between our legs and hope that things will get better.  I don't know about you but I have seen this in action with friends and collegues.  Simply put, this is our physiological reaction that helps the 'law of attraction' manifest.  We operate from fear, we attract more of it.

Similarly, we could superimpose these concepts on many aspects of men's health, i.e. erectile difficulties; which arise predominantly when sexual anxiety, or, fear is present, or, poor sperm counts; which are generally found after a man has been unable to impregnate his wife
for more than 1 year, ...again, fear of failure and not providing the woman he loves what she so intimately desires.

Bottom line here is that men need to make the hormonal swing back into testosterone land.  Testosterone is produced in the testis,...therefore, if we want this economic situation to change, men have to grow some balls!
