In this lecture Dr. Toth will explain the role of pathogens, primarily bacterial infections, in infertility as well as their effects on the overall health of both the men and women they affect. Dr. Toth will start by giving a brief overview of how infections cause infertility and some of the conditions that he attributes primarily to infection. He will then summarize his research papers, clinical observations, and his rationale behind accepting pathogens as the main cause behind infertility. Dr. Toth will then go on to explain the rationale behind and effectiveness of some of his treatment modalities including intravenous antibiotic administration, direct injection of antibiotics into targeted areas, and using antibiotic cocktails for washing of the uterine cavity. Dr. Toth will end his presentation by discussing the overuse and ineffectiveness of fertility drugs and some of the potential downsides of IVF cycles.

Bio:
Dr. Toth earned his medical degree from the Semmelweiss University in Hungary in 1964 and continued his studies in pathology at the same university. After immigrating to the United State in 1968 he joined the Cleveland Clinic and spent one year in hypertension research. In 1973 he earned his degree in both clinical and anatomic pathology from The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. In 1974, after ten years practice as a pathologist, he gave up his position as chief of laboratory services at the Bronx Veterans Hospital and assistant professor of pathology at The Mount Sinai Hospital to pursue a clinical carrier and apply his pathology knowledge in direct patient care. He embarked on a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Hospital and became board certified in OBGYN in 1977. With his double specialization, Dr. Toth is unique among OBGYN practitioners. His training has been invaluable in shaping the way Dr. Toth approaches reproductive health and fertility issues. His background led Dr. Toth to the main cause of infertility, infections, as opposed to the common academic approach of circumventing the problem as practiced by the majority of the gyn community. Over the course of 30 years Dr. Toth has authored over fifty research papers, the majority of them dealing with infections relating to infertility. His laboratory research, coupled with his clinical observations has found that the primary cause of infertility is the presence of harmful pathogens within the genital tract.
While the majority of the fertility community has become entrenched in the use of IVF and other ART procedures that are aimed at circumventing the cause of infertility Dr. Toth has focused on treating the underlying cause of infertility, symptomatic or asymptomatic infections. His results are sobering revelations on the misguided, often financially motivated IVF practices. Dr Toth’s success rate is more than double that of the best IVF clinics. The more important fact by far is, however that Dr Toth’s approach with the treatment of infections has drastically reduced, if not eliminated all complicated pregnancies and the quality of the babies born after Dr Toth’s treatment is far superior.
In an era when healthcare expenditures are spiraling out of control, Dr Toth’s approach has the chance of reducing or eliminating the expense associated with producing an IVF baby and the medical costs associated with the taking care of the multitude of medical problems these children encounter through their entire life.
