I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on May 5th. I have a fibroid on my uterus the size of a grapefruit.
I am supposed to take a Lupron injection on March 24th and then again on the 21st of April.
I am so confused after reading on the internet why I am actually having htis shot and if it is really necessary.
What will the benefit be to taking this injection?

Hello Bajaluna,
Lupron shrinks fibroids temporarily. Taking Lupron before fibroid surgery has been shown to decrease fibroid size, make the surgery easier and decrease blood loss at the time of the surgery. So there are some benefits to taking it before the procedure.
