34 - PCOS: hypothalamic amenorrhea
Overview:
Female, Age: 34: Trying to concieve for 1.5 years. Western Medical Diagnosis: PCOS (hypothalamic amenorrhea: stressful lifestyle & extreme exercise). Never been pregnant, BMI within range, Lawyer Presented with very irregular menses, oligomenorrhea (very few menstrual cycles), PMS, cold body, tense neck, blurry vision, forgetful, love sweets, Bowels alternate from loose to constipated, high stress (just recently moved from another country, headaches, moderate to low libido. Has had a polyp removed. Has done a few Clomid cycles and a certain type of superovulation with a gnrh pump(?) all unsuccesful. Was planning to do IVF and in the mean time was recomended by the fertility clinic to go to Acubalance to optimize her chances of success.
Treatment:
cut back on exercise, start yoga, Acupuncture 1/wk
(then 2/wk 6 wks before retrieval), Chinese herbal Rx until start IVF drugs, & supplements were recomended. She was compliant with her treatments for 2.5 months duration.
Outcome:
She had not had a cycle in a few months and before that
it had been a long time. After 1.5 months of treatment she had a natural healthy bleed and
was very happy (no need for progesterone). She then went back to the fertility clinic and ultrasound showed a ruptured follicle (she had
ovulated again!). Later that same month: 'Pregnant', au natural !
