C-section not best option for breech birth
I wanted to share this article on C Section not best options for
breech birth from the Globe and Mail Newspaper
The article states that "Physicians should no longer automatically
opt to perform a cesarean
section in the case of a breech birth, according to new guidelines
by
the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada." Full article can be found using the link below.

While the article discusses the need to train obstetricians in how
to deliver breech babies vaginally, obviously the safest option is to
deliver the baby head down. There are a number of different methods to
try and turn a breech baby, including massage and a technique that some
chiropractors have been trained in called the Webster technique.
However, one of the least invasive and most long standing ways to turn
breech babies involves a treatment called moxabustion. This is an
ancient Chinese Medicine practice that can help turn the baby in a
painless and effective manner by using an herb
called mugwort and burning it over a designated acupuncture point. This is something that women can be taught to do and
can practice at home (see video) There have been a number of studies
demonstrating the effectiveness of moxabustion in turning breech
babies (link to study).
I am delighted to read in the Globe article that medical experts are
starting to recognize the wisdom of mother nature over high tech
interventions As the spokesman Dr. Lalonde states,“The safest way to
deliver has always been the natural way.” This is what midwives have
been advocating for years, and is the basis of all Chinese medicine
treatment. This article in the Globe and Mail, seems to indicate that
the
definition for what is medically necessary is evolving.
