MOMMIES

Pregnancy involves great change within your body and within your lives. It is important to maximize your body s constitutional strength, thus enabling you to enjoy your pregnancy in as healthy a physical and mental state as possible.
Monthly or bi monthly acupuncture treatments
At the time of conception, both mother and father transmit their energetic state of being onto the embryo. After conception, the mother nourishes the fetus from her own Blood and essence. This normally will not cause any problems in a healthy woman, as long as the mother has freely flowing Blood, Qi and essence. Regular acupuncture treatments can support and nourish the mother to prevent any imbalances from occurring.
Optimize diet and nutrition.
Eat organic, eat nutrient rich foods, drink clean water, and supplement diet with Pre- Natal Vitamins, folic acid, DHA
Medicinals to alleviate pregnancy discomfort or health concerns, and promote wellness.
Meditate, relax, de stress
Many expectant mothers are working long, hard hours in high stress jobs, often allowing only a couple of days of preparation before the baby is born. This puts a great deal of stress on the mother and the developing child. The child is especially at risk because he/she is developing physiological and energetic systems. This causes him/her to become susceptible to 'maternal toxins' that are the by-product of stress.
Information and informed choices
Exercise
There are many cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, thermoregulatory, and biomechanical changes that occur throughout the pregnancy. It is important to note that at this time your focus should shift from trying to increase your levels of fitness to maintaining a level of activity that maintains your feeling of well-being. Studies have proven that active, fit women tend to have fewer complications through their pregnancy.

Schedual Nuchal Transcluency Test
This prenatal screening test (also called the nuchal fold scan) uses 3-D ultrasound to measure the clear ("translucent") space in the tissue at the back of your developing baby's neck. That measurement can help your health care practitioner assess your baby's risk for Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems. While the nuchal translucency screening test won't give you the definite diagnosis you'd get from more invasive tests like amniocentesis, it can help you decide whether you want to undergo diagnostic testing. And unlike diagnostic tests, it's painless and involves no risk to you or your baby.
This test needs to be done between weeks 11 and 13 of pregnancy. In the Lower Mainland there are 3 locations that have qualified technicians and the equipment to preform this test. In order to have the tests covered by MSP, there are age restrictions and certain criteria that must be met. Otherwise, you can pay for the ultrasound at False Creek Surgical Centre.
