38 - 3 Failed IVF's, Male Factor, Pregnant Naturally!
Overview:
After four and a half years of trying to conceive a baby. Husband was diagnosed as having poor sperm quality. During that period of time, they attempted three IVF/ICSI cycles - the first was converted to an IUI cycle after a cyst developed on her ovary. The second IVF attempt was aborted after only 3 follicles developed. On their third attempt, again there was a low number of follicles produced, but they were able to produce 1 embryo from 2 eggs retrieved. Unfortunately that egg did not hatch, and so that attempt was also unsuccessful. At this point, they were told that the only way they would be able to conceive a child is with donor eggs. They came to Acubalance looking for a Traditional Chinese Medicine approach to maximizing both of their fertility, to hopefully conceive a baby naturally.
Treatment:
I recommended both partners complete a three month period of Preconception Care, where she and her husband were to come for weekly acupuncture treatments, and take Chinese Herbal Medicine everyday to strengthen their reproductive energies. The husband was treated by my colleage, Trevor. I made some recommendations for her diet, asked her to continue walking everyday (they were both wearing pedometers, or “step-counters”, during their initial consultation), ensured that she continue to get enough rest, and encouraged her to stay connected to family and friends. They came faithfully every week for acupuncture treatments, and just as reliably took their Chinese Herbal Medicine every day. They also worked hard at staying balanced with diet, exercise, rest, and maintaining a positive outlook about the entire journey that they were on.
Outcome:
Four months after first coming to Acubalance for her initial consultation, they dropped by the clinic to let us know that she was pregnant for the first time in her life! She is now coming for acupuncture treatments to keep her strong and balanced during her pregnancy.
