35 - Anxiety about losing control over her birth
Overview:
Lawyer, 35, came in at 33 weeks pregnant, with her baby in the breech presentation. Her overall preganacy has been healthy and normal up to this point. However, the fear of a possible C-secetion had become overwhelming. It should be noted that this is her second pregnancy. During her first pregnancy she was under the care of a medical doctor, and felt very disempowered through the care provided. This was especially true when they decided to induce her at 10 days overdue. This lead to a cascade of events which resulted in an emergency C-section, and severe emtional trauma. For this second pregnancy she is under the care of a midwife, and is a V-BAC candiate. They were considering her options of delivering the baby breech if the baby did not turn in time, as she wants to aviod a C-section at all costs.
Treatment:
Treatment principle: calm shen, course liver, rectify qi, fortify spleen. Duration of acupuncture treatment: weekly until the baby arrives. We took an indepth look at her fears and anxieties, and saw a cousellor to deal with her feelings. She did breech moxa 2 times/day, as well as practiced the cat poses and inverted poses.
Outcome:
At 35 weeks, her baby turned head down. Although this weas excellent knews we continued with weekly acupuncture treatments to deal with her anxiety and cervical ripening. On her due date, she naturally delivered a beautiful baby boy.
